Legendary actor Dev Anand passes away in London
CHANDIGARH: The legendary actor Dev Anand passed away last night at London. He was 88. He died due to cardiac arrest.

 Dev Anand, who had been in London (UK) for medical check up was reported to be unwell for the past few days. The son of Dev Anand, Sunil was with him when he breathed his last. Besides Dev Anand, his two brothers Chetan Anand and Vijay Anand were active in the film industry. The famour director Shekhar Kapur is son of their sister Sheel Kanta Kapur.

 Dev Anand had made his debut as an actor in 1946 in 'Hum Ek Hain'. However, he became superstar after his movie 'Ziddi' released in 1947 and a household name in the country.Among his various hits include movies like 'Jewel Thief', 'Paying Guest', 'Baazi', 'Johny Mera Naam', 'Warrant', 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna'  'Des Pardes' and so on.He also won two Filmfare Awards i 1958 for his performance in the film 'Kala Paani' (Black Water) and in 1966 for his performance in 'Guide'.


In 2002, he (Dev Anand) was also honured with the coveted 'Padma Bhushan' in 2001 and 'Dada Saheb Phalke Award' in 2002 recognizing his valuable contribution to the Indian cinema. He also recevied a Filmfare 'Lifetime Achievement Award' in 1993 and in 1996 he received a Screen Videocon 'Lifetime Achievement Award'.

 Before his death he was engaged in the direction of a new all American film Project 'Song Of Life',a musical love story which was to be shot in the United States.He had also set-up his film production company 'Navketan International Films' in 1949 and  produced more than 35 movies.




Teachers get tips on educational satellite

A meeting of the government teachers was held under the Educational Satellite (Edusat) programme of the Education Department today.

In-charge of 25 each Satellite Interacting Terminals (SITs) and Receive Only Terminals (ROT) were imparted information about the equipment installed in their respective schools.

The meeting was conducted at the Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School Mall Road, wherein the Edusat supervisor told teachers about the equipment available at respective centers. The Edusat centers are being run in 50 senior secondary schools of the district. It is meant for imparting lectures to the students from classes ninth to plus two about various aspects of their syllabus. The lessons are relayed from the Edusat Studio situated at the office of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) at the SAS Nagar. All the centers have been provided with the science lab assistants (SLAs), who operate these equipment while the in-charges are teachers, who have volunteered themselves for supervising the works.

In-charges were informed about the ways to look for the information of equipment received and importance of tabulating the entire data. The edusat had been launched by the ISRO to facilitate education at the national-level.

Besides, educating students, the edusat is also utilised for teachers’ training programme.

It supplements the curriculum based teaching training, provides greater community participation, increases access, strengthens education efforts and provide access to new technologies.


आज से काम पर लौटेंगे मिनिस्टीरियल कर्मी

पिछले एक सप्ताह से मांगों पर नोटिफिकेशन जारी किए जाने को लेकर सामूहिक छुंट्टी कर हड़तालरत मिनिस्टीरियल कर्मी हड़ताल खत्म करने की घोषणा करते हुए सोमवार से काम पर लौटने को तैयार हो गए हैं।

यह जानकारी पंजाब मिनिस्टीरियल सर्विसेज यूनियन के जिला प्रधान सुखदेव राज व यूनियन के जिला सचिव गुरनाम सिंह विर्क ने दी। उन्होंने बताया कि सरकार के साथ चंडीगढ़ में हुई वार्ता के दौरान सरकार ने यूनियन की अधिकतर मांगें मान लीं। साथ ही अन्य मांगों पर शीघ्र विचार करने का आश्वासन दिया है। इसके बाद जनहित में यूनियन की स्टेट बॉडी द्वारा लिए गए निर्णय के तहत हड़ताल को खत्म करने का फैसला लिया गया है।

सरकार द्वारा मांगें मान लिए जाने पर यूनियन के सदस्यों लखवीर सिंह, बलवीर सिंह, सुखविंदर सिंह, सुरेंद्र पाल सिंह, हीरावंती, गुलशन कुमार, दर्शन सिंह, कर्म जैन, रमेश्वर सिंह, प्रवीण सच्चर, अमरीक सिंह संधू आदि ने प्रसन्नता व्यक्त करते हुए सरकार का आभार जताया है।
